Christmas came to our house

>> Monday, December 10, 2007

Well, Friday night we gave into our cheaper side and went and purchased a fake tree. At first it was really hard for me to do. I love the smell of pine and I miss it, but I really don't miss having to water it, or all the money we spent on Sprite trying to keep it alive (does that really work anyway?). Then after the kids were all snuggled up in bed we set up a new toy train to go around our tree and by some small miracle we managed to find 4 C batteries to run it. You would have thought it was Christmas morning at our house. We had 8 inches of new snow and K came into our bedroom around 7AM very excited waking up T and telling him to come quick because he had to come and see the tree (T LOVES trains!). It really was just as fun as Christmas. But unlike Christmas, this was a surprise that the were not expecting. Which made it that much more exciting and fun for them. They love the train, and spend hours watching it go around the track. Then they spent another hour playing in that new snow!!

That was pretty much all it took, and now our house is a pretty jolly place to be around. I love seeing Christmas through my children's eyes. It really does make Christmas that much more special.

It's my favorite

I was online looking at the cute kiddo's that are finalist in the gaps "casting call" contest. Such cuties! It made me think of this picture of D. He was the cutest baby ever. And a total sweetheart to boot. After having him I am convinced that the chubbier they are the happier they are. Those round cheeks really add something don't you think. (I know what you are thinking Brian! not those cheeks :) Just thought I would share, my favorite picture of him. He went through this stage where he was always making this face and I was lucky enough to capture it one day before his nap. Such a treasure to me. If I only had one picture from his first year and this was it I would be a happy woman. Have a great day! And what happened to his hair?

Oh Christmas tree

>> Thursday, November 29, 2007

My favorite thing about Christmas is by far is the Christmas tree. I love the way it smells, I love how pretty it looks all lit up. It really makes the Christmas season for me. But I hate how hard it is to keep it alive. Brian and I both grew up having a fresh tree. We loved going and picking out the perfect one for the year. But we always wait until the 2nd or 3rd week of December because we don't won't it to die on us. So my debate is whether we should cave and get a fake one? Part of me feels like I am giving in and getting one of those shiny aluminum trees like they talk about in the Charlie Brown Christmas special. That there would be some sweet little Charlie Brown tree waiting to be decorated. Maybe I can talk Brian into getting the tree earlier this year. Any good tips on getting your tree to survive? (plus we got the kids a train to go around it and I can't wait to surprise them with it!)

This is my favorite from Ashley and Karls wedding. I was a little worried about the storm, but it actually turned out beautifully.

A few to share

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas?

Where is my snow!!! I love the snow and it was suppose to snow last night. But alas nothing. This is my favorite time of year. I love getting down my sweaters and bundling up on the sofa with a good book and hot chocolate (by the way if you have any good recipes for homemade Hot Chocolate I would love you to share them). Unfortunately it has been too warm to really enjoy those things.
We are trying our best to make "fake" it. Brian put Christmas lights up on Saturday. And this morning I downloaded one of my favorite Christmas songs onto my ipod. And just when I think I am ready to jump into the spirit of the season I look outside and what do I see? SPRING! It is very frustrating. I am hoping that the weather man pulls through and it is cold on Thanksgiving and for our families annual trip to watch the light turn on down town.
